MSI Complete 200,000km Marathon in 12 Months of Trade Shows
MSI has just completed 12 months on the road attending 5 major international trade shows – the most in a single year since our formation 8 years ago.
Starting in March 2010, representatives from both the South African and Australian offices attended the biennial Oceanology 2010 (OI’10) at Dockland in East London. This was the third time MSI had attended what is known to be ‘the’ major show for our industry, and it lived up to its reputation with nearly 7,000 visitors and 550 exhibitors from all over the world over the 3 days. As well as clients, this global ocean forum was also an excellent opportunity to catch up with suppliers and to discuss projects and new technologies face to face with them.
Australasian Oil and Gas 2010 (AOG’10) in Perth, WA followed on straight after OI and is believed to be the largest Oil and Gas show ever held in the Southern Hemisphere. Over 9,000 visitors attended the trade show that hosted 408 exhibitors from 16 countries. Held annually, AOG’10 was a perfect opportunity to meet new and existing Australian clients and to demonstrate some of the products available from the three international manufacturers that we represent.
In May, it was Australia’s turn to host the IEEE Oceans Conference and exhibition. Held at Darling Harbour in beautiful Sydney, this international exhibition provided a backdrop to a comprehensive conference program delivered by scientists from all over the world showcasing advances in marine science and technology. Staff from MSI in Australia were joined by AXYS Technologies, Frank Johnson of RBR Ltd and Tony Chedrawy of MetOcean Data Systems. The instruments on the stand generated a great deal of interest and follow up sales including the sale of an MS-310 Portable Salinometer to CSIRO and an AXYS HydroLevel Mini buoy to BMT.

In November, MSI joined 5 other Tasmanian based Australian companies involved in Oil and Gas industry, as part of the Austrade delegation exhibiting at Oil Sea East Asia 2010 (OSEA2010) in Singapore. OSEA2010 was the largest edition of the event in its 34 year history with over 25,000 attendees visiting over 4 days. Although a focus on the industry in SE Asia, the attendee’s hailed from over 60 countries making it a truly international networking event. Interest was received from Australia, all around the SEA region as well as for upcoming work in Africa!
Capping off the 12 months was AOG’11 in February 2011 where visitor numbers increased to over 11,000 of which 16% were either from interstate or international. A total of 450 exhibitors from 22 countries attended the show with MSI again being part of pavilion for 11 Tasmanian based companies that attended. Interest from this show has yet again already led to a significant number of positive leads and the investment MSI made in attending has already been returned.
